WEST Brewery, G40
Here’s your cheat sheet for G40 by WEST. Some of you may have another beer, called DRK, instead. I’ve done a separate cheat sheet for that.
WEST, G40 / Golden Ale / 4.2% ABV / IBU not available
Featured in main subscriber box on 21 February 2019.
Find WEST on Twitter at @WestBeer and on Instagram at @west.beer.
Serving temperature
Serve this beer between around 5°C to 7°C; stick it in the fridge for at least an hour.
As ever, be wary of over-chilling your beer. More chill means less flavour. To learn more read my post on recommended serving temperatures.
Flavours to expect
I’ll level with you, I’m not sure whether this is going to turn out to be a British style golden ale (think Fullers Discovery) or something more like a Belgian golden ale (think Duvel). The bottle says Belgian. The ABV says British…
Either way there should be pale cracker malts and distinct hop bitterness. It’s just a question of how much, and what the yeast is up to. As for the hops, here’s what we can expect:
- Herkules: pine, spicy, black pepper
- Cascade: lychees, floral, grapefruit
- Chinook: grapefruit, citrus, pine
- Saaz: earthy, herbal, floral
Food pairings
Try it with some asparagus. Chicory can also work. Lobster if you’re feeling posh, crayfish if you’re not. Maybe some pork chops.
Further info
This beer isn’t mentioned on WEST’s website apart from in the shop. Perhaps it’s been discontinued? Anyway, I don’t have anywhere to send you to this week for further info. Sorry. You can also check out some of the previous cheat sheets if you want to catch up on a beer from past weeks.
