Serving temperature

Serve this beer between 7°C and 10°C; stick it in the fridge for about an hour.

As ever, be wary of over-chilling your beer. More chill means less flavour. To learn more read my post on recommended serving temperatures.

Flavours to expect

A sweet treat for the cold winter nights.

This is a lovely beer. It’s billed as a marshmallow porter, which means it combines the roasty notes of a classic dark ale with a smooth sweetness from the marshmallow. Tiny Rebel describe the result as “a delightful, S’mores-like ale” – and I have to agree.

Its flavour was soft, with burnt marshmallow floating over roast malt, coffee, liquorice, dates and vanilla. With a moderately full and yet light body, soft carbonation preceded the gently drying finish, where a slight coffee bitterness lingered just edging the balance over the malts. I found it very pleasant with a ghost of burnt marshmallow allowing some more complex flavours to come through.

Food pairings

It’s got to be s’mores, right? Or failing that perhaps one of those oversized soft chocolate cookies. A chocolate brownie could work too. But if you want something more savoury, try it with cheese – especially gruyère – or perhaps some bresaola.

Or just go for the s’mores.
