Here’s your cheat sheet for Belgian XX Strong Mild by Orbit Brewing Ltd. This is another brewery based very close to me. They did a fantastic sour with elderflowers and Nelson Sauvin hops at the recent LBA Festival at Fullers. Now we get to enjoy another of their non-core beers. And it’s a big one to finish up the fifth BeerBods Plus box.

Serving temperature
Serve this beer between 10°C and 13°C; stick it in the fridge for 1 hour.
As ever, be wary of over-chilling your beer. More chill means less flavour. To learn more read my post on recommended serving temperatures.
Flavours to expect
This is described as a strong, ruby-coloured mild ale brewed with Belgian malts and an English ale yeast. It’s rich and sweet with warming notes of caramel, raisins, and sherry. You might also get liquorice and molasses flavours with nutty toasted malts. Sounds pretty damn good to me!
Food pairings
Mild is usually a little bit shy compared to other dark beers. Fruity and roasty, yes, but gently so. This usually means gentle food pairings too. But this one is called a strong mild… so perhaps we can give it a touch more welly? Perhaps some sticky barbecue ribs, or duck with a rich and fruity sauce. You could go down the chocolate route too – milk, semisweet and bittersweet chocolate should all work. Washed-rind abbey cheeses could work too, as it sounds like there will be some overlap with dubbels here.
