Maule Brewing Co, Lucky IPA
This week BeerBods have chosen to feature Maule Brewing Co. They’re still pretty small, and brew in limited batches, so getting all of us bods drinking the same beer was a tough call. Instead they given us two beers. This cheat sheet is for Lucky IPA. If you have Smashing Pale Ale instead I’ve made a separate post for that.

Serving temperature
Serve this beer between 7°C and 10°C; stick it in the fridge for 90 minutes.
As ever, be wary of over-chilling your beer. More chill means less flavour. To learn more read my post on recommended serving temperatures.
Flavours to expect
The brewery tells us that this beer has a “sweet caramel malt body, with a clean mid palate bitterness which drifts away leaving you with a smooth finish and wanting another sip”. Sounds great. There’s come crystal malt in there, plus torrified wheat (probably just a touch to aid head retention). And for the hops we have:
- Warrior: resinous, herbal, pine
- Galaxy: fruity, passionfruit and citrus
- Simcoe: pine, grapefruit, passionfruit
Food pairings
Expect a bold and fruity beer with biscuity malts and assertive hop bitterness. To pair with food you’ll need similarly robust flavours so look for strong, spicy food. Curry is a classic. Mild blue cheese can work a treat. Bold, sweet desserts are good. Lots of sweet caramel to balance out the bitterness can work a treat and play to the malty side of the beer. Then add some fruity elements to match up to the hops.
