Earlier this month Ukraine’s anti-corruption body added Bacardi to its list of international war sponsors, after the company broke promises and continued to operate in Russia. That means its taxes are funding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
So, you might want to take your business elsewhere, but that means more than just avoiding its famous rum. Like the other big multinationals, Bacardi owns a whole host of other brands.
You can check out the full list on their website. To save you some time, though, I’ve picked out the main ones that will be of interest to gin drinkers.
First up, and it’s a biggie: Bombay Sapphire. This includes all of its sub-brands:
- BOMBAY DRY
- BOMBAY SAPPHIRE
- BOMBAY SAPPHIRE East
- BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Star of Bombay
- BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Bombay Bramble
Bacardi also owns two more gin brands, Bosford Rose Premium Gin and Oxley Gin. The last one is particularly delicious, so it’s a shame to forego it, but hey, it’s not like there aren’t plenty of other great gins out there.
But it doesn’t stop there. Bacardi also own some brands that you may well use in your gin cocktails. The biggest is probably Martini in all its many guises. Of particular importance to us gin fans are the vermouths:
- MARTINI Bianco
- MARTINI Rosso
- MARTINI Rosato
- MARTINI Extra Dry
- MARTINI Gran Lusso
- MARTINI Riserva Speciale Ambrato
- MARTINI Riserva Speciale Rubino
- MARTINI Riserva Speciale Bitter
Bacardi also owns Noilly Prat, another big vermouth brand.
- NOILLY PRAT Original Dry
- NOILLY PRAT Extra Dry
- NOILLY PRAT Rouge
- NOILLY PRAT Ambre
That’s two of the easy, go-to supermarket options for your home bar dirty martini off the menu. So what to go to instead? Well, you could do a lot worse than Dolin, which has been owned by the same two French families for over two centuries and doesn’t belong to any of the multinationals.
